The tree just outside the door of our shop has certainly gotten a lot of attention this past week!
Judy surprised us by knitting a sweater out of Berroco Comfort Chunky yarn, which she specially designed for
the tree. Then she actually climbed up a ladder and hand-stitched the sweater right onto the tree! This creative endeavour is called yarn bombing , street art that employs knitted or crocheted cloth
instead of chalk or paint.
You can read more about Judy's adventure in extreme sweater fitting over on her Purl Bumps blog.
The local press stopped by for a visit because they had some calls from Langley residents,
who thought it would make a fun and whimsical photo story for this time of the year. We've enjoyed glancing out the shop window to see folks (knitters and non-knitters
of all ages) stop on the sidewalk, look up, smile, then reach for their cell phones to snap a photo to share with others.
Which is the whole point of yarn bombing.... to share the creative possibilities of our beloved craft.
We hope you are able to steal a moment here and there during the holiday rush to relax with a few rows of knitting and crochet.
Happy Stitching,
from all of us at 88 Stitches
